In 2019 Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE was the first person to be appointed to the new role of Chief Midwifery Officer. She is the most senior midwife in England, providing professional, strategic and clinical leadership.
As well as her distinguished professional reputation, she is also known as midwife to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Nightingale is respected worldwide for her pioneering role in developing the nursing profession, her statistical work, and her evidence-based approach to healthcare. In honour of her bicentenary the World Health Organisation have named 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife.
