Museum Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help bring our collection to life and tell the story of Florence Nightingale. Volunteers will support staff to play a vital role in the running of the museum when it is open. They will help to engage diverse audiences and provide our visitors with an excellent visitor experience. There will be opportunities to volunteer on days the museum is closed and to volunteer remotely.

Main Activities:

  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors in the galleries
  • Facilitate object show and tell sessions with visitors
  • Help the museum gain an insight of its audience by encouraging visitors to take part in visitor surveys and recording visitor engagement data
  • Support the learning team with the preparation and facilitation of holiday activities for families
  • Carrying out other visitor engagement activities as required on the day (training or briefing will be provided where necessary)
  • Contributing to the upkeep and visual appearance of the museum by keeping it clean and tidy for our visitors

Education Volunteer

The museum frequently hosts school trips on site as Florence Nightingale features in the national curriculum. We are looking for volunteers to support with the delivery of these sessions to support the Learning Manager.

Main Activities:

  • Assist the learning team in setting up and packing down school sessions
  • Help the actor-explainer with greeting school groups and crowd control on gallery
  • Explain the workshop activities to teachers and pupils and support the group’s engagement with the museum
  • Support the learning team with the facilitation of holiday activities for families
  • Help with preparation, set up and pack down of family activities
  • Assist with the evaluation and marketing of the learning programme as required
  • Help the museum gain an insight of its audience by encouraging visitors to take part in visitor surveys and by recording visitor engagement figures
  • Contributing to the upkeep and visual appearance of the museum by keeping it clean and tidy for our visitors
  • Other museum engagement activities may be required when there are no schools in the museum.
