Description

The original shield-shaped silver and enamel pin in purple, white and green was first issued in 1908. The Women’s Social and Political Union, a suffragette organisation, was set up by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters in 1903 to campaign for the vote using all means. Posters, badges and newspapers were all items produced to publicise the fight for women’s voting rights. Today the colours of purple, white and green are still used by those advocating women’s causes.
