Monthly Museum Late

Through the Lens of the Archives

Can’t make it to the museum during our normal weekday hours?

Join us at one of our themed monthly museum lates for an opportunity to explore our exhibitions after hours! These extended openings allow visitors to see the space in a unique and hands-on way!

This month’s late will also include a special talk will be given by Hedvig, a placement student pivotal in the research and creation of our new exhibition In Focus: Nurse Catherine Pine. The talk will start at 6:30pm GMT and will last around 45 minutes with time for questions at the end.

Nurse Catherine Pine was the private nurse to Emmeline Pankhurst, her family, and the suffragettes. This themed talk will allow visitors to learn about the research process and discuss how small archival pieces can be so important! It will explore how to read resources from both online and in-person archives.

Some of the archives we used during our research were the British Journal of Nursing, Women’s Library LSE, and National Archives.

This talk is included in all general admission tickets.

A bar will be open starting at 5:00pm serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks offering the perfect accompaniment to your visit.

All tickets purchased for the monthly museum lates are general admission tickets and will be valid for a full year. All general admission tickets (including those of repeat visitors) will be accepted for these monthly Thursday evening lates.

About the Speaker:

Hedvig is a placement student from The University of Westminster where she is earning her degree in Museums, Galleries, and Contemporary Culture. She has been with the Florence Nightingale Museum for 6 months and has been heavily involved with the research and creation of our newest temporary exhibition, In Focus: Nurse Catherine Pine.

She is very knowledgeable about Pine, her medal, and will able to showcase how to extract useful data from seemingly small documents located within archives.
