Marissa L Accamando, BSN

Marissa began her lifelong nursing career in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. She followed in the footsteps of many great nurses before her, most notably her mother, LesAnn Accamando. Her compassion and love for the care of others led to her thriving as a nurse from the beginning. Always maintaining patient care as her top priority, Marissa works in the Cardiovascular Critical Care unit at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been recognized on many occasions as a leader within the nursing community.

Just as Florence Nightingale pioneered the path for modern day nursing, Marissa has shown time and again her dedication to her true calling. She has been nominated twice for the Cameos of Caring Award: honoring bedside nurses who show excellence in nursing care, serve as an advocate for patients and families, and embody the essence of the nursing profession. She was also nominated in May of 2018 for the Rising Star Award at Allegheny Health Network. Marissa serves on the Quality Council at Allegheny General Hospital representing her fellow nurses as they work alongside management on important initiatives to maintain the high standard of patient care.

Marissa has dedicated her life to nursing and has been a tremendous advocate to the profession. She has worked with countless new nurses during their orientation to help them learn and excel in their careers. Most recently, she has expanded that into a role as an Adjunct Faculty member at her Alma Mater of Carlow University. She instructs nursing students in the clinical setting to teach them the skills necessary to develop and advance on their journey through schooling and into the start of their careers.

Marissa represents everything that Florence Nightingale spent her life and career preaching and writing about. She is selfless in what she does as a nurse day in and day out. From patient care to the teaching and instructing of the future nurses of the next generation, Marissa would do anything to make sure this great profession continues to grow and evolve as Florence would have always wanted.
