Sister Sarah Sayer
Sarah undertook her nurse training at Orsett hospital in 1991, qualifying in 1993 and subsequently worked at Basildon hospital. Sarah moved to Southend Hospital in 1995 to work on the Coronary Care unit where she became a sister. She then moved to the cardiac rehabilitation service in 2001 as a clinical nurse specialist and has been the service lead for 14 years. Sarah always put her patients at the forefront of everything she did and would go above and beyond her role to ensure that they received the very best care from her and her team. She would frequently stay late past her shift to call patients personally and provide reassurance and support where necessary.
She was very well respected within her field and won a CTC and Cardiology award in February 2024 for her work setting up a lipid service within Southend hospital. The service was also a finalist in the Nursing Times 2011 awards. Sarah had also been asked to speak at the National Cardiac rehabilitation conference this year. Sarah represented what it means to be a nurse, both the professionalism and the passion, she will be sorely missed by her colleagues and patients.
