Dr. Maude Chapman

PHD, RN

Dr. Maude Chapman is a leading figure in regional nursing and midwifery education, known for her dedication to health equity, workforce development, and academic excellence across Central and North Queensland.

Her career began as an Enrolled Nurse, where she developed a strong foundation in patient care. Driven by a passion for lifelong learning and service, she progressed to become a Registered Nurse and later earned a Doctor of Education. Her doctoral research focused on nursing leadership in clinical settings, examining how leadership influences team performance, patient outcomes, and professional development—particularly in rural healthcare environments.

Dr. Chapman has been a cornerstone of nursing education, campaigning for improved access to nursing and midwifery education so that nurses from regional and rural communities can be trained and retained locally addressing the critical shortage of a skilled nursing workforce in North Queensland. A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Chapman is also a committed researcher with a desire to highlight the barriers and enablers to building research capacity among regional nurses.

Dr. Chapman’s work bridges clinical practice, education, and research. She is widely respected for her ability to empower nurses and midwives through accessible, community-informed education. Her leadership continues to shape a more resilient and skilled healthcare workforce, ensuring that rural and remote communities receive the care they deserve.
