As a Reserve nurse for almost 40 years, Vivien balanced a long career in both the NHS and the British Army. As a specialist paediatric nurse at home, she would then find herself nursing predominantly adults in war zones, such as on deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. Here Vivien discusses the unique challenges of nursing in austere environments and experiencing the ‘best of both’ as a reservist.
