Flo on the Road (key stage one)

Meet Miss Nightingale at your school!

Your students will meet an actress in the role of Florence Nightingale, and will learn all about her life, why she went to the Crimea, how she made things better for the soldiers and what happened as a result of her work. Nightingale will also bring a selection of real and replica objects, and replica uniforms for a Nightingale nurse and a Crimean soldier, which can be tried on.

Session times

The visit includes two sessions and so is ideal for two or more classes.
10.30 – 12.00
1.00 – 2.30 (session repeated)

Curriculum links

  • KS1 History: The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.
  • KS1 History: Significant historical events, people and places in their own locality.
Learning objectives

  • To gain an understanding of why Florence Nightingale is famous and why we remember her
  • To gain an understanding of why Florence Nightingale went to the Crimea and what it was like working in the Crimean War
  • To find out how Florence Nightingale improved the conditions for nurses and soldiers in the Crimean War

Your students will meet an actress in the role of Mary Seacole and find out about her life and work in the Crimean War. Mrs Seacole will also bring with her a selection of real and replica objects.
