Primary School Booking InformationThe Museum offers educational sessions to primary schools to support Key Stage 1, year 2, unit 4 - ‘Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?’, and any other Primary School classes studying Florence Nightingale."A Visit with Miss Nightingale" - The Session Your class will be welcomed to the Museum by an actress in role as Miss Nightingale and experience a 30 minute performance. Miss Nightingale describes her life, why she went to the Crimea, how she made it better for the soldiers and nurses, and what happened as a result of her work.
Following the performance, your class will take part in self led activities throughout the Museum - "Discovering Florence". Miss Nightingale will also be on hand to assist with these. If time allows at the end, Miss Nightingale will show your class a replica Crimean nurses’ and a soldiers’ uniform, which can be tried on.

Discovering Florence Activity Sheets Discovering Florence consists of three hands-on activities which are placed around the Museum. The activities support the QCA Scheme of Work, Unit 4 'Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?'. Children have the opportunity to handle real and replica objects, look at photographs and prints, while working through a series of worksheets to learn more about the life of Florence Nightingale.
Booking Information The Museum runs "A Visit with Miss Nightingale" every weekday morning, 10.00am - 12.00pm and 12.00pm - 14.00pm. We take bookings one term in advance and advise you to book as early as possible in the term before your desired visit date, as the session is very popular. The Cost £180 (includes child and adult admissions, performance and photo-copiable resources)
Once you have made a booking, a booking confirmation and Primary Visit Pack will be sent to the email address you have provided. The Primary Visit Pack includes all the details about your visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum as well as the photo-copiable worksheets. Please photocopy the worksheets for each child, before your visit.
Adult Numbers For groups visiting with children aged under eleven, the Museum recommends an adult/child ratio of one adult to five children. All adults are included in the price.
Group Numbers The Museum welcomes one class, with up to 35 pupils, at a time. Please note the Museum is relatively small and the booking ensures your group is the only group to have access to the Museum at the time arranged. However, can we remind you that there will be other members of the public visiting at the same time. Please ensure your group shows consideration.
Payment Payment can be made either on the day or by invoice, which will be sent to the school after your visit. Once teachers have made a booking with us we recommend a free preliminary visit for the group leader to familiarise themselves with the Museum, the lunch room in St Thomas’ Hospital and to plan their time in advance. We also recommend teachers do a risk assessment during this visit. There is a generic risk assessment in the Primary Visit Pack which will be sent to you.
Special Educational Needs Schools A Visit with Miss Nightingale can be booked by schools with children who have special educational needs. The session can be adapted to suit the class’s needs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Cancellation Charge School groups that cancel their visit within a month of the visit date will be charged 50% of the total cost. School groups that cancel their visit within a week of the visit date will be charged 100% of the total cost. We do still apply the cancellation policy if you need to cancel your session at the museum due to the weather or transport difficulties.
Coats and Bags We have space in the museum for lunch bags and coats, but items are left at the owner’s risk.
Clipboards The Museum has approximately 35 clipboards that school groups may use on their visit.
Wheelchair Access The Museum is easily accessed from Lambeth Palace Road and from St. Thomas’ Hospital car park. The Museum is at ground level throughout and so is suitable for wheelchairs. A wheelchair accessible toilet is also available.
The Shop The shop sells a wide range of items including postcards, books, educational packs and pocket money gifts ideal for children. You can order goody bags in advance when you make your booking.
Lunch and Eating Facilities The Museum cannot provide a lunch space
