The Museum's Collections

1. Artefacts
     
The Museum has three classes of artefacts in a collection numbering less than 1000 items:
  • Artefacts owned or used by Florence Nightingale
  • Material connected with the Crimean War (1854-56): military, hospital and nursing
  • Objects connected with the Nightingale School and St. Thomas' Hospital (1860-1910)

  • Portraits of Florence Nightingale
  • Images of Crimean hospitals, army camps and battles
  • Images of nurses and hospitals connected with Florence Nightingale, principally the Nightingale Training School for Nurses and St. Thomas' Hospital.
Other collections
The Florence Nightingale collection at the British Library comprises at least 8,000 letters or copies in Florence Nightingale's handwriting and can be consulted by Readers of the Library.

Research Facilities

Research facilities and access to the reserve collection are available by appointment only, to researchers, academics and those with a bona fide research interest in Florence Nightingale and the Florence Nightingale Museum Collection.

Appointments will be at the Museum’s discretion. To make an appointment please contact the Museum with details of the subject of study and what material is of interest. Sufficient notice is required and the use of the research facilities is dependant on availability.
